Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) use a high voltage battery which can be charged via an external power source as well as by the vehicle's own charging system.

Volkswagen's range of Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicles is represented by the GTE badge. The Golf GTE and Passat GTE are currently available, both with the increased performance of a battery and an electric motor. Battery charging is made possible via a mains or charging point connection. They have both a combustion engine and a lithium-ion high-voltage battery driving an electric motor. On purely electric energy, they can travel up to 31 miles between charges and when electric and petrol combine the total range can be up to 580 miles. The Golf GTE offers the dynamics of a GTI alongside the extra sustainability of an e-vehicle.

The GTE is fuelled by petrol with a standard fuel filler, with an electric socket behind the Volkswagen roundel on the front of the vehicle (Golf GTE) for e-charging. To charge the high-voltage battery with the standard mains charging cable, a standard mains socket can be utilised for around 3 hours 45 minutes. With an optional wall box or at a public charging station it takes 2 hours 15 minutes. A wall box has 55% higher charger performance than a mains socket. Please note that there is no DC charge facility for the Golf GTE.

As the clocks go back and tough winter weather approaches Volkswagen is turning up the heat in the SUV sector with the launch of a suite of new offers on two of the most competitve entrants in the burgeoning market sector: the fully-connnected new Tiguan and luxurious Touareg.

Both models benefit from attractive offers during Volkswagen's SUV event, which begins at participating Volkswagen Retailers today and runs until 13 November. Among the Event's limited-time deals is an incentive for customers who finance a Tiguan or a Touareg in which they will recieve their first two consecutive vehicle services free of charge.*

As part of the Event, the all-new Tiguan is available with a deposit contribution of £1,000 at 5.1 per cent APR representative for customers taking advantage of a Volkswagen Financial Services' Solution Personal Contract Plan*. Standard equipment on all Tiguans include Bluetooth telephone connectivity and the Composition Media infotainment system with an eight-inch colour touch-screen. For buyers of the SEL trim and above, this is upgraded to the Discover Navigation system. Meanwhile six airbags help to ensure the new Tiguan is rated at a maximum five-stars in the Euro NCAP safety assessment programme.

Todays Tiguan is packed with technology and connectivity. Also featuring on the SEL trim and above is Volkswagen's Active Info Display system, for instance, which turns the instrument binnacle into a 12.3inch high resolution TFT screen with customisable menus and information. Meanwhile, Adaptive Cruise Control takes the strain out of driving in stop/go traffic.

Available in five distinct trim levels, there is a Tiguan for every type of user. Additionally, the Tiguan has a white range of petrol and diesel engines and manual or DSG automatic gearbox options. Sitting at the top of the range is the storming new 240 PS 2.0 litre bi-turbo diesel Tiguan, available in SEL or R-Line trim.

In addition to the free servicing offer, and contribution towards the finance deposit, the Tiguan accessory Protection Pack is also discounted during the SUV Event. The protection pack compromises front and rear mud flaps as well as front and rear floor mats. It also includes a handly flexible boot liner. These accessories are usually priced at £280 RRP but, during the Event, are available for just £235 RRP.

For the Touareg, the accessory Transport Pack has been reduced from £507 RRP to £460 RRP. Included are roof bars, a 340-litre roof box in matt black, and a storage bag for the roof bars and supporting rods.

During the SUV Event the Touareg is available with a £3,000 deposit contribution for customers opting for a Volkswagewn Financial Services' Solution Plan* when the 204 PS engine is selected, or with a £5,000 deposit contribtuion when the 262 PS engine is chosen. Both offers are available at 5.9 per cent APR representative.

The luxururious Volkswagen Touareg ensures a relaxed journey and at the same time benefits from permanent 4MOTION four-wheel drive to put the 'Utility' into SUV. Its driveline includes a limited-slip Torsen torque-sensing differntial with an electronic differential lock on all four-wheels, thus aiding traction and the Touareg's off-road ability.

Inside the Touareg, plethora of standard equipment includes interior lighting, a multitude of useful sockets and storage compartments and 'Cricket' leather upholstery. Cruise Control, 27one electronic air conditioning and parking sensors ensure it is highly equipped while offering strong value.

The Touareg R-Line boasts 20-inch 'Tarragona' alloy wheels and sports suspension, which is approximately 25 mm lower than that on the Touareg SE. Bi-xenon headlights, tinted glass from the B-pillar back and the R-Line bodykit makes the version a particularly sporty drive.

Completeing the line-up is the new Volkswagen Touareg R-Line Plus. Featuring 'Vienna' leather upholsterly, 21-inch 'Mallory' wheels and the Area View for an all-round 360-degree perspective of the Touareg, this is the ultimate in SUV technology.

Wolfsburg, 29 September 2016 – Think New! Under this guiding principle, and with a visionary electric vehicle, Volkswagen is offering a fascinating outlook on the mobility of tomorrow at the Paris International Motor Show (1 –16 October). The world premiere of the I.D. is the focal point of the company's show appearance. The zero-emission I.D. will go into production in 2020, and it will kick off a new generation of innovative electric vehicles.

Dr Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand explained: “In 2020 we will begin to introduce an entire family of electric vehicles on the market. All of them will be based on a new vehicle architecture which was specially and exclusively developed for all-electric vehicles. Not for combustion engine or plug-inhybrid vehicles. The I.D. stands for this new era of all-electric vehicles, for a new automotive era: electrical, connected and autonomously driving.”

Volkswagen’s show appearance in Paris unites all three phases which together show the way from the present to the future: the I.D. presents the world of “the day after tomorrow”. The latest generation e-Golf – which celebrates its world premiere in November –presents the world of tomorrow. Equipped with gesture control and a zero-emission range of up to 300 kilometres, the new e-Golf will set standards. The world of today is embodied in highly advanced Volkswagens like the new Tiguan. It already guarantees customers a fascinating digital experience in the current generation model with such technologies as the ActiveInfo Display and head-up display.

Volkswagen is giving a new direction with the I.D. It will be the first Volkswagen on the market to be based on the newly developed Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB). The I.D. is positioned as a compact electric car with which Volkswagen aims to expand its range of high-volume models in parallel to best-sellers such as the Polo, Golf, Tiguan and Passat. The I.D. will be powered by a 125kW / 170 PS electric motor. Offering a range of up to 600 kilometresand a price on the level of today’s Golf with comparable power, the I.D. will make the “zero emissions” theme a natural aspect of everyday driving.

The I.D. shows a completely new Volkswagen design language for electric vehicles of the compact class. What is known as the Open Space Concept has been implemented for the first time in its interior. Somewhat shorter than a Golf, the I.D. offers the generous space of a Passat. This was made possible by the new drive concept architecture with an electric motor on the rear axle and a high-voltage battery in the vehicle floor, which enables more space and flexibility. At the same time, the I.D. already bridges over to the year 2025: the I.D. is the first Volkswagen concept car to be fully autonomous in the “I.D. Pilot” mode. The“I.D. Pilot”is activatedby touching the VW logo on the steering wheel, which then disappears into the instrument panel and gives the driver an entirely new feeling of space.

The conventional car key has been retired in the I.D. Instead, a smartphone will be used as a “Digital Key” to open the car and enable the vehicle to start. The idea behind it: in the near future, individuals who drive a Volkswagen will get their own “Volkswagen ID”. This ID is an individual profile that stores such information as personal seat and climate control settings, favourite radio stations and play lists, settings of the sound system, contact data for friends and business partners and the navigation system configuration. This profile is called up via the Volkswagen Automotive Cloud.

With more power on tap than even the current iteration of the iconic Golf GTI, Volkswagen is making its most potent Tiguan yet available for order in the UK this October.  The new 240 PS bi-turbo diesel, designated BiTDI, also offers an increase of fully 30 PS over the previous most powerful Tiguan, the 2.0 TSI seen in the preceding generation of the car.

The bi-turbo 240 PS engine is similar to that offered in the current Volkswagen Passat and Passat Alltrack, and boasts a high-performance cylinder head and two-stage turbo charger.  The injection pressure of the common-rail piezo injection system is a mighty 2,500 bar and the engine is capable of generating up to 120 PS per litre.

Mated as standard to Volkswagen’s 4MOTION four-wheel drive system, it endows the new Tiguan with prodigious performance in the mainstream SUV segment.  Capable of reaching 142 mph, where the law permits, the 2.0 BiTDI-equipped Tiguan meanwhile sprints from rest to 62 mph in just 6.5 seconds.

Selective Catalytic Reduction helps to reduce emissions by injecting AdBlue™ into the Tiguan’s exhaust system, thus helping to reduce NOx by converting it into harmless water.  The Volkswagen SUV also includes a Start/Stop system and battery regeneration which, together, contribute to a CO₂ figure of just 167 g/km*.  All the engines in the Tiguan range meet the latest EU6 emissions standard.

As well as the 240 PS bi-turbo engine, the most powerful of the Tiguan’s three petrol engines is also now open for order in the UK.  The 2.0 TSI 180 PS is available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmission.  It is also offered as standard with 4MOTION four-wheel drive and offers a top speed of 129 mph, 0-62 mph time of 7.7 seconds and a CO₂ figure of 170 g/km*.

Save every time you stop...

We think that sitting in traffic is bad enough without knowing that you have to pay for it too. That's why we created Start/Stop Technology, a really simple way of helping you to save money whenever you come to a stop.

What does it do?

Start/Stop almost completely deactivates your engine whenever you come to a temporary standstill and then smoothly reactivates it whenever you’re ready to get moving again.

How it works:

Once you've stopped, you simply slide the car into neutral gear, release the clutch and Start/Stop technology deactivates your engine. Then, when you're ready to get going again, you simply dip the clutch and the system turns everything back on. If you're driving an automatic, it's even easier; the system kicks in and automatically deactivates your engine whenever you've stepped on the brake and reactivates it whenever you press the accelerator.

Where can I get it?

Start/Stop technology is available on almost all Volkswagen models. Simply choose it as an option when selecting your engine or select one of our bespoke BlueMotion models.
